Golde's deceased grandmother, who endorses the marriage between Tzeitel and Motel. Actor will also play a villager in some scenes.

Lazar Wolf’s deceased wife. Appears in Tevye’s dream sequence as a frightening, comedic apparition. Appears in some scenes as a villager. 

 

CONSTABLE

Russian military official stationed near Anatevka who knows the villagers well, however he has superficial relationships with the villagers.

 

FYEDKA

Age: 20 to 25

 

A strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye's imposed silence.

 

SHEINDEL

Age: 40 to 65 

 

Motel’s mother, very proud of her son. Appears in some scenes as a villager. 

 

RABBI 

Gender: Male

Age: 50 to 70 

 

The spiritual leader of the village. Wise, gentle, and measured, often offering thoughtful, understated guidance. A calm and respected presence.

 

SASHA

Gender: Male

Age: 20 to 30 

A young Russian soldier, friend of Fyedka. Must be an athletic dancer. 

 

AVRAM

Gender: Male

Age: 35 to 60 

 

Avram runs the local bookshop in town and keeps the town informed of all of the news in the area – news which is mostly bad.

 

MORDCHA/INNKEEPER

Gender: Male

Age 35 to 60 

 

Mordcha runs the local bar in town and is a friend to Tevye. Runs the bar in town and is a friend of Tevye. Sings in the ensemble.

 

MENDEL

Gender: Male

Age: 20 to 35 

 

The Rabbi's son, who is being groomed to one day, hopefully, become the Rabbi. 

 

NACHUM

Gender: Male 

Age: 20 to 35 

 

 The town beggar. He is dirty and a scrounger. Nachum is introduced by Tevye during “Tradition,” and may appear as one of the villagers in ensemble numbers.
